THE HEADSTOCK

is the heart of the machine! The TITAN headstock boasts a unique design, it both swivels and slides allowing you to stand in the most efficient position when turning. Re-positioning is effortless using the cam action locking, no need for additional tools. A lockingpin on the  position guide slider means you can always  locate the zero position.

 The low motor mounting helps provide stability and reduce  spindle loads and moving drive parts are shielded.

The drive belt can be changed without dismantling the spindle. Extra large, maintenance-free, double row

 angular contact ball bearings ensure extremely quiet and smooth running. A massive 60mm diameter  spindle with 15mm centre bore. M33/DIN800 spindle thread, hardened for durability  (other spindle thread sizes available up to  M50 on request). MT2 hardened Morse taper  for use of drive centres and drill chucks.  2-step Poly-V-pulley drive, reduction 3:1. Clutch function gives optimum transmission of power as well as improved safety. The extremely large distance of

 390mm between bearings coupled with the distortion-free  steel housing ensures smooth rotation without  twist effects and with minimal noise. These lathes really are very quiet. 315mm or 400mm swing over bed.

 All this makes it possible to work on wood of diameters up to 780mm over the bed. This means that you can safely  support even very large pieces with the tail stock, thus saving money and workspace as an outboard

 attachment is not required, diameters of up to 2m are workable by turning the headstock through 90 degrees.

 

 

 

Additional features

 

Easy adjustment of motor Quick access to pulleys

 Integrated 48 position indexing with coloured scale and lock at all 48 positions for routing, drilling and carving. The compact, super slim design of the lathe construction allows perfect ease of access over the whole of your work piece from both the headstock and tail stock ends.

 The enormous spindle heights of 315mm & 400 mm respectively enable the turning of large pieces with tail stock support. No need for an additional outboard attachment saving both space and additional expense. The sliding headstock also allows tool-less adjustment for use as a bowl lathe for long hollow vessels.

 

 

 

THE TAIL STOCK

 

Solid cam action clamping, large, free-moving hand wheel. Hollow quill with 9mm centre hole. Long quill travel of 200mm. The extra slim construction and accessibility of the tool rest allows easy access to the work in progress at all times. A clear mm scale allows precision drilling.

 Grip-hole for easy dismounting - although in practice dismounting it will rarely be necessary because the headstock can be moved effortlessly within seconds without tools. However, if dismounting is required, then the retaining pin of the sliding block will make re-positioning of the

 tail stock easy to perform.

 

 

THE HAND REST

 

Extremely flat construction with cam action clamping. Only light pressure is needed to safely secure the tool rest in any position. Tool rest stems of 30mm and 40mm are catered for. With the headstock positioned at full inclination it is possible to work on pieces of 25cm to 40cm thickness. The clever construction of headstock and tail stock allows precise positioning of the tool rest, even for short or thin pieces by making

 use of two possible ways of aligning it securely.

 

 

The Lathe Bed and Legs

 

A distortion free heavy duty steel construction with

 substantial box section strengthening and precision guides made of high-alloyed hardened steel machined and polished to perfection. Ergonomically designed it allows for excellent accessibility and efficient ejection of wood shavings, 500mm and 1500mm bed extensions are

 available. The A-frame stand has separately height adjustable legs as standard ensuring stable support on less than even flooring.

 

 

 

THE ELEKTRONIC

 

Height and angular position adjustable invertor and control panel, housing digital readout, operating controls and emergency stop switch with 1.5kW or 2.2kW single-phase input 230 Volts (3-phase output) invertor  options with shielded wiring. Large cooling fins on the inverter ensure optimum performance during extended full load use. Forward/Reverse drive, freely programmable start and brake speed.  Re-positionable Control Unit supplied as standard.

Cast iron versus steel

 

Cast iron has been without doubt a useful material to build a wood turning lathe in the past and for generations it has been the material of first choice in mechanical engineering. However, technology has moved on and it is now possible

 to machine high-alloyed steel using diamond cutting tools not available in bygone days. The many types of high quality steel which are available today have made our choice aneasy one.  After all, why use good quality casting, when the finest quality steel is available to produce high performance machines with top specifications for crafting woodturning

 lathes. These precision machines will be enjoyed by future generations for many years to come, in the knowledge that any worn parts can be exchanged for new spare parts of the same high quality. This could not have been guaranteed easily for broken or worn parts

 made of cast iron because of the demand of casting molds.
